Over the years, I have been a part of a great many forums. From the originals of Neoseeker and ONM, I jumped around a fair few places, but always stuck with the ones I felt most at home. While use of each individual forum varies, the current batch of them I use I’ve been with for quite a while.
Neoseeker was one of the first places I joined in December-2006, back then under the name of CDS. I was barely active there, enjoying the hype for the 3DS and Mario Kart 8, but rarely ever posting. Across the many years there under that name, I had just under 400 posts. On April-2011, I had created the DarkRula account, but had been uncertain which of the two I wanted to use.
At the end of 2017, I decided to return to Neoseeker for good, and settled for the DarkRula account. Every other account including my own website was now under the name, so it made sense to do the same for Neo as well. This account saw a lot more use starting from 2019, where I became a regular of the Nintendo Switch and General Gaming forums, diving into other places for those games I knew I’d engage with, such as Animal Crossing and Pokémon.
For ONM, or the Official Nintendo Magazine website, I’d joined in early 2007 under the CDS name, occasionally making article comments and occasionally dropping into the forum. As I slowly started to get more engaged with the forums, I became a more active poster, joining in with sharing photos from 3DS games and discussing games that got announced. But in 2014, the magazine and website were shut down.
The community rose up, however, and created a new forum for the community to hang out. Thus, SONM – Super Online Nintendo Messageboards – was born, keeping the ONM spirit alive. And alive it was, with plenty from ONM migrating over and things being much the same as before. I certainly joined in a lot more – this time under the DarkRula name, but even so, when it was deemed that SONM could no longer stay operational in 2018, I still hadn’t gone beyond the 1600 post count I’d had on ONM.
ONM had been a Future project. Another Future project had been Games Radar. That community had also created their own hangout once the Games Radar forums had closed down. The owner of SONM had contacted GRcade in 2015 to attract more members, and so when SONM closed, it was decided that the community would migrate there. GRcade has been a great home for everything, and it’s one I’m happy to belong to.
Sonic Stadium I had joined in April-2013, enjoying the hype that was Sonic Lost World. It was through SSMB that I started to explore the wider world of Sonic the Hedgehog media, and came to enjoy the community events that happened. It’s through SSMB and the community events that have been run that I’ve been introduced to several new Youtube entertainers and TV series. I also enjoyed the Summer of Sonic event in 2016, which had been my first time going – having seen the livestream of the previous event in 2013.
The Jedi Council Forums I joined in February-2015, having enjoyed The Clone Wars and the beginning of Rebels and wanting to join in some discussion of the seasons. I also dropped by the gaming and literature sections, but the one area I have avoided is anything to do with the films. It’s not that I don’t want to discuss the films in any way, but I’m content with the areas I do stick to. The games, TV series, and books I’ve enjoyed a lot more than any of the films.
After the closure of both ONM and CVG (whose forum I would also be using on occasion), I needed somewhere new to get news for games. While I did settle for using the new GamesRadar+ site, the widened coverage of TV and films made it feel less like a dedicated gaming site. That’s how I ended up keeping an eye on Nintendo Life for all Nintendo related news, then in 2016 signing up for an account to get into the forums.
Discussing various Nintendo games, as well as getting Xbox related news from the General Xbox thread, I was enjoying myself at the site. I had another place to join in the hype for the Nintendo Switch, sharing my thoughts on it from the hands-on event in January-2017 and those first few days where it seemed everyone was marvelling over The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
There are several other places I’m signed up to, with the most recent being the GTA Forums. I’ve enjoyed GTA V a lot, and have recently being going back to the past with the series, so I joined up to talk some thoughts about the past and future. The FailRace forums are another place I joined, since FailRace is a Youtuber who I’ve been enjoying the content of a lot, with various racing games being featured.
There’s also the Animal Crossing Community, which I had originally joined way back in 2007 under the name of 2Brandon2. Ten years later, I rejoined the site under the DarkRula name to join in with the community and get to know the site before the inevitable Switch game released. With New Horizons having now released, I’m enjoying the talk about the game.
