The month is July, which means another Racing Month is upon us, and this time there will be more than four games featured. There won’t be any personal stories being the main point of those featured, but some will still be featured - mostly with the experiences articles. And one of those is set to be coming with Wreckfest.
There’s other articles coming, with a return to a concept of mine from two years ago. Zincite Storm Cup was a story I’d written back in 2012 that wasn’t much of an engaging tale. But when crafting this concept, I borrowed plenty from it for the foundations of the idea. One which was to combine the racing and RPG genres.
That concept focused a bit too much on the racing side of that balance, so I’m returning to it to balance the scales and bring a bit more RPG to this combination of the two. Most of the core will stay the same, but I’ll be bringing some changes that allow more elements of an RPG to be visible within it.
There’ll also be other articles, though they won’t all be centred on Racing Month. As I said in last month’s update, since E3 has been fractured into plenty of smaller events running through the two middle months owing to the current pandemic, I’ll be covering those that take my fancy. I know I didn’t cover… anything about those last month, but I felt there was little I could really talk about.
The Playstation event was great, but I know I would never be playing anything on it. Star Wars Squadrons is looking a great little game, but I held off on posting about it as I drew a blank when trying to talk about it. I’m certain it will be a worthy successor to the X-Wing vs TIE Fighter series, but I have no direct experience of those games. Nothing to call back on.
This month I should know what I’m talking about, though, with another Microsoft event coming soon and one from Ubisoft that could even bring a racing game with it. One event that definitely will bring a racing game is the upcoming Nacon Connect, with a tease within the trailer that announced it for Test Drive Unlimited 3.
This is a series I’ve played little of, but enjoyed the previous Unlimited game all those years ago. And that is one of the gameplay videos coming this month. There will be a video showing off F1 Race Stars – a game that I loved for crossing the concepts of Formula 1 and a kart racing game, the Switch game I’d covered in an experiences article at the beginning of the year – Rush Rally 3, and more.
It’s clear to me that Pokémon: Shadow Boom has hit a bit of a snag. The same one that I faced last time. How to end it. I fell into the exactly the same traps as last time regarding it, and reverted to that older method of writing. The ending will come before the end of the year, and I’ll be sure to add it onto the timeline when it does.
And speaking of that timeline, I’m expanding it out a bit to include two full months of content rather than just one. Such allows for more exposure of those previous months, but it also allows the timeline to be filled with more content at any one time.
